You will delve into the creative journey behind the design of the ASLtrainer logo. Our team embraced the motto ‘If it’s not a yes, it’s a no’ to ensure that every design choice resonated with you. The process involved exploring various icons, symbols of connection, and hand shapes, ultimately leading to a logo that reflects the core values of ASLtrainer.
The meaning of the logo
From the beginning of the logo design process, we knew that we wanted to work with the claim “speak with hands” and it should have an Icon in it. These two items should be added to the name of our Learning App ASLtrainer. The version which won the process includes all these items.
If it’s not a yes, it’s a no
During the design process, we had the motto “If it’s not a yes, it’s a no”. So we searched for Ideas and designs for the logo we all could say yes, that it! The journey of finding an Icon brought us to mascots, symbols for connecting and communication and different shapes of hands. The more we knew what values ASLtrainer should stand for, the clearer it became which designs should be pursued further and which should not.
Combination of different ways of designing
Our team member Maryna was responsible for implementing our ideas in Illustrator. Often she added shadows and rich details to our Ideas and we often preferred the most simple versions she made. When the logo was almost finished, she asked me why we always remove all the rich details. In Ukraine, where she originally comes from, many of her clients there wanted more details, more and more. We realized that there are cultural differences between Ukraine and Switzerland. In Switzerland, we prefer much simpler logos, than they do in Ukraine.
On the basis of the talk about details with Maryna I had the idea to add a colour gradient into the loading circle. The colour gradient helps make you feel that the loading circle is rotating like a loading sign on the computer.

Good processes
I like processes in which a group of people give their best and achieve more together, as opposed to if they were alone. Maybe that is the reason why this version won the process at the end. Because everyone from the team was involved and brought something from his taste and background and we melted that into something new.
